Know your ducts

Your duct system is used to distribute conditioned air throughout your home. But what most people don’t know is that in typical homes about 20% or more of the air is lost due to leaks, holes and poorly connected ducts.

Use this checklist to see if your home has the symptoms:

  1. You have high summer and winter utility bills
  2. You have rooms that are difficult to heat and cool
  3. You have rooms that feel stuffy and never seem to feel comfortable
  4. Your home always seems to be dusty
  5. Your heating and cooling system is noisy
  6. Your family has allergy problems
  7. You have kinked or tangled flexible duct lines

If you said yes to any of these symptoms, the problem may be your duct system.

Barineau Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. has a new and effective approach to help solve these kinds of issues. Using PATS, we take the guesswork out of duct leaks and allow you to actually see how much, if any, air is leaking.

A duct system that is properly designed and sealed can make your home more comfortable, energy efficient, cleaner and safer.

What is Performance Air Testing and Sealing (PATS)?

The PATS method uses the most advanced technology and the highest standards in our industry to test and seal duct systems.

Listed below are some of the tests we may perform for your home: (not all homes will require all tests)

Leakage To the Outside

This test allows us to measure leaks to the outside of the conditioned space. Example: If you have ducts in the attic or under the home.

Total House Leakage

This test allows us to measure leaks in your home. Example: Doors, windows, cracks, light fixtures, etc.

Dominant Leakage Test

The dominant test allows us to measure where the dominant leaks are. Example: In supply ducts or in the return ducts.

Combustion Appliance Zone Test

This test allows us to measure your home under the worst-case scenario to determine if any gas appliances may be back drafting.

Pressure Pan Test

This test allows us to pinpoint the exact location of any ducts that are completely disconnected from the duct system.

Pre and Post Test

Before and after sealing the ducts, we will perform a pre and post test to verify the effectiveness of the sealing.
