Big Bend Cares 21st annual AIDS Walk & 5K Run on October 2nd

Since 1987, Big Bend Cares has been the only AIDS Service Organization in our eight-county region, and since 1990, the AIDS Walk has been our biggest and most important fundraiser.

Big Bend Cares was formed in 1987 as an all volunteer, grass-roots agency. Today, we are proud to be commemorating 24 years of serving our community.  Big Bend Cares provides education and comprehensive support to people infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. The purpose of Big Bend Cares is to provide supportive linkages and programs for people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and to educate community members about HIV prevention methods.

Big Bend Cares serves the area designated as 2B by the Florida Department of Health. This includes an eight-county, rural area in North Florida consisting of Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties. Last year, Big Bend Cares provided services to 903 (unduplicated) clients who are HIV+ or have AIDS. 78% of BBC clients are African American, and 73% of those clients live below the Federal poverty level. Case management services provided by Big Bend Cares to clients who are HIV+, increases their quality of life and links clients to care who otherwise would have to go without care.

The AIDS Walk will take place on Sunday, October 2nd at Tom Brown Park.  All proceeds will be applied to direct-care services for our clients, and HIV prevention and education for the entire Big Bend region.
